Kids Bedroom Refresh – Giving Back
Cute kids bedroom makeover ideas that might make them want to keep things tidy. This month is all about giving back. As a member of the Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart network, each month we are presented with a fun challenge to share ways to decorate with Better Homes & Gardens items available at Walmart. What began as a opportunity to recognize a deserving family for my August post turned in to a blessing for me after watching a video of the kids seeing their rooms for the first time after the makeover.

I think we all know a deserving family, they work hard to overcome opportunities in life, like this young family that just moved in to a new to them home. When I heard how excited the kids were to have their own bedrooms, I knew they’d really appreciate a fun makeover. Each room received new bedding, rugs, a piece of furniture, curtains and wall art all from the Better Homes & Gardens line sold at Walmart.
Here’s what I did in the Girl’s Bedroom
- Remove/Rearrange furniture and placed rug.
- Changed bedding
- Rearranged wall art/added the stuffed unicorn.
- Created a play area at the end of the bed.
Even though I felt like the changes were minor and affordable, the kids were thrilled.
Watch the Room Reveal:
Mom said she’d like to replace the hunter green carpet one day, adding the rug changed the look of the space as soon as I unrolled it. It’s so soft and creates a perfect place to play with toys.
TIP: Layer a rug over wall to wall carpet to bring new life to any space. This low pile carpet was the perfect candidate for layering.
The twin size bedding comes with a pillow sham and two cute pillows. The stuffed unicorn above the bed created a playful addition to the space!

The reverse side of this comforter is pink and I love the pompom details. I think pink is someone’s favorite color.
The addition of the slipper chair created space for two at the table and chair set that were already in the room. I grabbed a stuffed animal and coloring books from her collection for the play area.
Mom added cute pink hardware to the furniture that they already had. Great idea for freshening up any furniture.

Remember the kids had no idea that I was doing this, I’m sure she would have put her toys away 😉
Let’s take another look of the before:
Boy’s Room Refresh
I added the same rug in each room and you can see how fitting it is in both spaces. The plush comfortable rugs really lighten up the spaces.
I rearranged some of the furniture pieces and wall art to create a more cohesive space. The previous bedside table was replaced with a fun wire basket table, great place for a lamp and corralling toys.
The bedding came with a star pillow and a pillow sham. The reverse side of the quilt has blue and white stripes, perfect for when you want to change the look. The navy curtains have airplanes on them, they coordinate well with the navy and white bedding.
Not wanting to remove his personality, I left several posters that were hung around the room. I added the world wood art piece above the bed under a light fixture that was already there.

This wire storage table is large and will hold lots of sports equipment and it had a wood top perfect for holding a lamp and anything else that you need beside your bed.
