Chalkology Ink Colors

Chalkology Ink is the permanent one. Heat set it and the design survives the washing machine, which is what makes tea towels and T shirts possible. There are 27 colors right now.

Ink against paste, in one line

Chalkology Paste washes off a chalkboard and Chalkology Ink does not come off anything once it is heat set. Everything else about using them is nearly identical. Same transfers, same squeegee, same motion. Pick by whether you want the design to be changeable or forever.

Because the process is the same, people mix the two up in conversation all the time. Candy Apple Paste and Candy Apple Ink are the same color and two completely different products, and ordering the wrong one is the mistake I see most often.

Heat setting

Let the ink dry first, then set it with heat. A heat press is quickest. An iron works perfectly well with a sheet of parchment paper between the iron and the design so nothing lifts. Until it is heat set the design is not permanent, so a project that goes straight into a drawer half finished is a project you will have to redo.

Working with it on fabric

Put a barrier inside the item before you start. Wet ink travels through a single layer of tea towel or T shirt and prints faintly on the back. A sticky ink mat holds the fabric flat while you work, which matters more than it sounds, because fabric that shifts mid squeegee smears the line.

Ink stays wet longer than paste. That is an advantage on a design with several colors, since the first color is still workable while you place the last. It also means a careless sleeve will drag color across the piece, so keep your hands and your work surface clean.

All 27 Chalkology Ink colors

Checked against my store on 2026-08-28. 21 of these match a paste color of the same name, so you can make a washable version and a permanent version of the same design in the same shade.

Colors you can only get as ink

These 6 have no paste of the same name, so if you want one of these shades the design is going to be permanent whether you meant it to be or not.

Berry, Cabernet, Lilac (En Vogue), Ocean Mist, Shimmer Copper, Tide

Questions I get about ink

Is Chalkology Ink permanent?

Yes, once it is heat set. That is the whole reason it exists. Heat set it with a heat press, or an iron with parchment paper between the iron and the design. Before you heat set it, treat it as wet and easy to ruin.

How many Chalkology Ink colors are there?

There are 27 Chalkology Ink colors in my store as of 2026-08-28. 21 of them match a Chalkology Paste color of the same name, and 6 are ink only.

What is the difference between Chalkology Ink and Chalkology Paste?

Paste washes off nonporous surfaces and ink does not come off anything once it is heat set. Paste is for a chalkboard you want to redo next season. Ink is for a tea towel that has to survive the wash.

Can you use Chalkology Ink on fabric?

Fabric is what it is best at. Tea towels, T shirts, aprons and tote bags all work. Put something inside the item so the ink cannot travel through to the back, and work on an ink mat if you have one so the fabric stays put.

Can you use Chalkology Ink on wood and glass?

Yes. Ink works on hard surfaces as well as fabric and stays permanent on both. Heat setting on wood or glass still applies.

Does ink dry slower than paste?

It does, and that is useful. Ink stays workable long enough to get through several colors in one design without the first one setting while you are still going. It also means wet ink travels onto a sleeve or a finger easily, so keep your hands clean as you move around the piece.
