There are 40 Chalkology Paste colors I can order right now. Paste is the one that comes off a chalkboard and stays forever on bare wood, and knowing which surface you are on before you start is most of the battle.

What Chalkology Paste is
Chalkology Paste is a thick chalk paste you push through a reusable transfer with a squeegee. It is not chalk paint and it does not behave like it. Paint flows, and this holds an edge, which is exactly what you want when the design is being formed by a silk screen rather than a brush.
Stir it to about the thickness of yogurt before you start. Paste settles in the jar, so a thin scoop off the top will bleed under your transfer and a stiff scoop from the bottom will drag. Nearly every disappointing first project I have helped somebody troubleshoot came down to unstirred paste.
What it comes off and what it stays on
On nonporous surfaces it wipes off with water. That means chalkboards, glass, metal and painted walls, and it is why you can redo a kitchen sign every season with the same board.
On porous surfaces it soaks in and stays. Bare wood, unfinished wood and paper all keep the design permanently. Neither behavior is a flaw, but picking the wrong one is the mistake that costs people a surface they liked. There is a full breakdown on what surfaces work.
How long a jar lasts
Roughly a year unopened, and about six months once it has been opened. Climate moves that number more than anything else. A jar in a hot garage gives up early and one in a cool cupboard outlasts the estimate. The habit that helps most is not leaving the lid off while you work.

Two names worth knowing before you shop. Shimmer colors have a metallic finish and read very differently on a dark board than a light one. En Vogue colors are limited runs, so they come and go rather than sitting in the standing range, and that is the group worth buying when you see it.

Questions I get about paste
How many Chalkology Paste colors are there?
There are 40 Chalkology Paste colors in my store as of 2026-08-28. That includes 6 Shimmer colors and 4 En Vogue colors, which are limited runs rather than part of the standing range.
How long does Chalkology Paste last?
About a year unopened and roughly six months once you have opened the jar. A hot garage shortens that and a cool cupboard stretches it. Opening the jar often is what dries it out fastest, so I decant a working amount rather than leaving the lid off while I chalk.
Does Chalkology Paste wash off?
On a nonporous surface, yes. Chalkboards, glass, metal and painted walls all wipe clean with water. On a porous surface like bare wood or paper it soaks into the grain and stays, which is either the point or a problem depending on what you meant to do.
How do you make Chalkology Paste permanent?
Seal it. A clear poly spray over a finished design locks it down on a nonporous surface. If you want permanent from the start on fabric or a hard surface, use Chalkology Ink instead, which is designed for it.
What consistency should the paste be?
Stir it to about the thickness of yogurt before every project. Paste settles in the jar, and a thin runny scoop off the top bleeds under the transfer while a stiff scoop from the bottom drags. Stirring is the fix for most bad first results.
Can you mix Chalkology Paste colors?
Yes, and it is one of the best things about it. I blend two colors right on the surface for shading, or mix in a cup for a shade that does not exist in the range.
