Picture Frame Makeover – Thrift Store Idea
If I had to guess, you probably don’t even need to go anywhere to grab an old frame!?! I feel like picture frames are a dime a dozen and there are so many things that you can do with them, today I’m sharing a cottage farmhouse idea.
Before we get started let show you the before and after, I’m so proud of how this old picture frame turned out.
Thrift Store Decor Team meets once a month, I hope you join us every month!
With just a few items, I transformed this dusty frame in to a farmhouse marque sign. Perfect for any space. I’ve include my Amazon affiliate links to some of the product used.
Here’s what you need:
- Picture frame
- Wood – I used a left over piece of bead board
- Scrabble Tile holder <<click to find them
- Marque Letters/Light Box letters or Scrabble Tiles <<find them
Remove the back of the frame and use it as a template to cut your wood or bead board. Place the backing on the board and trace around it with a pencil. Use a jig saw to cut. Paint your wood and desired color. My piece was a left over from a previous project and was already white. Lucky me ๐
Place the bead board or wood in the frame, you can use hot glue to hold it in if needed.
I used two scrabble tile holders, depending on the size of your frame, you could use more or less. I love the look of the marque sign ideas that I’ve seen everywhere, don’t you?
Mark the cut on your wood. Cut and place in your frame. You can embellish, like I did with this little house from Michael’s. Play around with the placement of each time, attach with hot glue.
I spray painted the house and added a farmhouse design with my Chalk Couture transfer.
This thrift store idea was very easy, I hope you will refresh a frame soon!

Oh, I’m going to have to steal that idea! I know I have at least a dozen frames in my basement that would be perfect for this!
This is adorable! I may just have to do this with one of my frames, thanks for sharing!
Whaaaa? I did NOT see that coming at all- it’s adorable!!! I seriously love it.
Too stinkin’ cute Debbie! You are right, I think we all have frames somewhere in our stash. Heck, I have a whole dept of frames in my garage. ๐
I love everything about this easy frame makeover.

Happy new year! What a fun, easy project! I picked up about five of those little wood houses at Michaels a month ago and you just gave me a great idea for one of them! And of course, I have a million frames on hand, so I can’t wait to get started. One question: what color/brand of spray paint did you use on the house? It’s such a gorgeous color!
