Coffee and Chalk, please…
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint that is!
I jumped on the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint bandwagon! When you hear great things about something, you (I) just have to try it! I’ve been waiting a few weeks and finally it arrived! Minus the wax, it’s on back order. I can live with that. In the meantime, here’s what I did with my Versailles Chalk Paint!
The chair before. Notice how shiny the chair is. There’s a reason I wanted to paint this one first. All the hype about the Chalk Paint is: No priming, or sanding necessary. No removing of old wax, paint or varnish. This paint will stick to most things including plastic, stone, bricks, concrete and metal. (Copied from the back of the can)
Picture of the chair after the paint has been applied.
I didn’t sand or prime!
Sanded areas for the aged look.
I used a Coffee Sack to cover the cushion of the chair. (hint, hint from the title)
I am kind of loving the matte finish, which is an option, if I decide not to use the wax…
I’ll revise this when my wax arrives…if I decide to wax on, wax off! Now maybe I’ll be brave and paint some of my pine furniture from the 80’s!
Check out the paint party at Centsational Girl!
I’ve been featured at Redberry Barn for winning a burlap contest!!! ย Check her out!!
I love it debbie,
I think I am a believer now wish they sold it around the Boston area!
Great job! I’m chompin’ at the bit to hop the chalk paint bandwagon too!

Even though I know, how very different a piece will look once it’s painted, I STILL get floored with a good B&A. This looks so dramatically different. And a little coffee was the perfect compliment.
Nice job Debbie! Now you will be wanting to paint everything in site. I remember when MMS first revealed the use of, and her piece, THAT very same night I ordered a can. SO I like to think and say I was the second lover of it all! I am ready to tackle a big piece soon again. the results are amazing as is your chair.
So glad you tried the chalk paint! Don’t you just love it? For all those wanting to try it, check to see where your nearest stockist is and you might be surprised to find there may be one close to you! We are growing all the time. We are in several states and I ship all the time for less than you think. I frequently ship full kits out for about $15.00 and it is Fedex, getting to the customer in about 2 days.
Thanks Vicki, I will check your site!
Wow, this turned out great! I am dying to get my hands on some chalk paint!
Thanks Erika!
Hi, Debbie! Can you please join us again at http://www.homemakeronadime.com/2011/05/creative-bloggers-party-hop-050111.html?
I must have been living under a rock, because I’ve never heard of chalk paint until today, and this is now the third post I’ve read about it. It sounds amazing!! I can’t wait to try it out. Your chair turned out beautifully.
I hope you’ll come link up to the Sunday link party at Addicted 2 Decorating!
thanks Kristi, I am loving this chalk paint!
the chair turned out beautiful and i love the covered seat.
Thanks for checking it out!
I am so in love with (the thought of) chalk paint! Now I just have to order some! This chair is divine. Where do you get your feedsacks? I’ve looked around and can’t find any that cost less than beaucoup bucks! Visiting from Restore Interiors.
Thank you so much Kathleen, the coffee sack was from a friend of mine. I have great friends!
Wow, what a transformation! It is absolutely beautiful, I guess I’m going to have to order some of this chalk paint I keep reading about. I have a yellow french provencial dresser I was going to put in a yard sale that might be a good candidate for a makeover for my granddaughter’s bedroom.
Judy
Thanks Judy, wish I could come to your yard sale…get the paint and keep the dresser, you’ll be glad you did!
This looks awesome! I painted with my Chalk Paint tonite for the first time. I can’t believe it went on as easy as it did. That’s what painting should be about.
Cheers,
Lisa
I agree, there will be more painting for me now! Thanks!
Love this! Great job on the distressing! Where did you get the coffee sack?
Jen, it was a gift from a friend! thanks!
i have a hutch that needs repainting, i was hesitant because of all the work that needs to do first…removing old paint, sanding…hope, chalk paints will be available here:)
I know what you mean! I hate sanding and prepping for big projects!
Hi Debbie, I’m visiting from Restored It Wednesday (a few days late–LOL!) So glad I found you because this makeover is outstanding. How many coats of the chalk paint did it take to cover the shiny, reddish finish? If you say just one, I think I’m going to have to run to the stockist that’s an hour from my house and grab a quart pronto! ๐ Love the coffee sack seat and the harp-back detail looks great in distressed white. Can’t wait to start receiving your new posts by email!
Erin
Erin, I just used one coat! I knew that I was going to sand it off, to really distress it, so I decided on one thick coat! Get you some, quick, it’s wonderful! I wish I had a store that close!
This looks great! The no sanding, no priming sounds awesome too. I’m waiting to hear from everyone how this paint holds up.
Thanks for sharing ๐
Thanks Ashleigh! I have tried scratching it off, it stayed on! LOL I was a little concerned too!
I was wondering where you purchased your chalk paint. I have looked online at a few places, but after shipping costs, it’s over $50..is this the going rate? Just wanted to know your thoughts…by the way, your chair turned out beautifully!
Here’s where I bought mine: Chalk Paint USA The price seems high, but when you take time, primer, sanding, and whatever chemicals you would use in consideration, I don’t think it’s so bad. I have spent a week on a project before! Thanks for coming by!
Debbie
Hi Crystal and Courtney,
Where are you located? Look for a stockist close to your area, shipping for 1 quart should not be that much. WonderFaux Studio is offering a special of 10% off and free shipping for any purchases over $250.00. Please feel free to call me at 281-242-4937.
Hi there- just stopping back by to say thanks for coming over and sharing at FNF! Hope you will come back and share again sometime soon! ๐
I hope to be back over Courtney!
Hi from another blogger in Georgia! I just have to say I loved this when I first saw the idea on MMS (with the sack), and I love it even more now. I want that chalk paint, but I just can’t see spending $40+ after shipping on a small can of paint. Yikes! I’ll just be jealous of you ๐ Great chair!
Crystal, I know what you mean about the cost. I have spent a week or more on some projects, and with buying paint stripper, gloves, and primer. I hope it equals out! Or maybe that’s just what I tell myself! Thanks for stopping by!
Debbie
I ordered some ‘chalk paint’ myself. Haven’t used it yet, but have been enjoying reading about others’ experiences. Just waiting for the right time.
Your chair looks great!

Thanks Pam, let me know what you end up painting!
Found this through Feathered Nest Friday and so glad I did! What a beautiful job! I can’t wait to try Chalk Paint. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful chair!
Thanks Mimi!
I’m waiting to find out if I won some of this! If not I’m ordering mine this weekend. SO I have a few questions. I cannot find anywhere that lists what is in this stuff? Also with no sanding or priming, I hear it’s very easy to distress so do you think the paint will wear off easily? And did you order strait from sloans site? It’s only $27 there but I’ve seen it up to $34 on other retailers. Do you feel like it justified the cost where you save in time and money on the sanding and primer? Thanks for any extra info!
I hope you will share this at my VIP party today =) http://designergarden.blogspot.com/2011/04/vip-party-11.html
Thanks Sommer, I am emailing you.
The chair looks FABULOUS!!!!! I’ve been reading quite a few posts about the paint and I was wondering how durable it is. It sands off really nice, when distressing, but if its not covered with some other sort of product to seal it, will it rub off with everyday use?? I gotta find out if this stuff is available in Ontario.
I can’t say enough good things about the paint, I love it! No it doesn’t rub off! Thanks, Debbie
Amazing your chair is gorgeous. I’m itching to try chalk paint! I’m a new follower please come by and visit sometimes.
Thanks Karen, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some! I will come visit!
