Finished Basement Part 1

This is our firstย basement, ever!

So when we bought this house last year we weren’t sure what we would do with an unfinished basement.

Finished Basement Part 1 -Decorating our New SpaceFrom gutted to finished! Tips on decorating a kitchen in the basement! Light and bright for a basement.

As you can see by the photo, we had it finished. We hired a contractor and it was finished in a little over a month. We debated on doing the work ourselves and finally decided that we would just add a little personalityย in the details here and there when it was finished. (I did finish the stairs, I’ll share that later.)

Crazy as it sounds, Mr. Refresh let me pick out everything from paint color to flooring! I described my decor plansย and he agreed.ย I was super excited about my choicesย but while we were waiting for everything to be installed I starting getting a little nervous. What if he didn’t like the color of the flooring? I ran back to the dealer grabbed the flooring samples and brought them home. The floors are one of the biggies, are you sure you want to go with what I picked out?? He did.

Kitchen area before

We had this small oddly shaped area, this is where we decided to add the kitchen and serving area (the plumbing from upstairs was in this area, which made the process easier).

There’s no stove, but there is a microwave… my kind ofย kitchen.

They vacuumed up the last bit of drywall dust on Wednesday and we were entertaining on Friday!

While the basement was under construction, I was busy shopping online. I knew this Better Homes and Gardens pub set would be perfect here, check out the BHG selection atย Walmart.com, they offer so many options online!

I also shopped the house and pulled together all my summer serve ware.

The kitchen/serving area decor isย finished/almost finished! Is any space ever really finished?? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. The kitchen and entertaining bar look fabulous! How fun (and maybe a tad stressful) to start from scratch and to be able to choose all new items. I just love how you pulled it all together.

    2. What a great way to “basement-warm” party! Love the pub set and I think it has the perfect size for many persons that have a small apartment and want to entertain as well. Thanks for sharing!

    3. I live in an apartment, and I wanted a washer/dryer (in one like they use in Europe) more than I wanted a stove. So I had management come get my stove. Instead, I use the Breville Smart oven. I can cook ANYTHING in that and doesn’t heat up the whole place. I LOVE what you’ve done here!

    4. Love, love what you have done. It’s beautiful! I notice you have one of the compact dishwashers. We are considering one for our lake home. Do you like yours? Would you recommend one? Please email me at [email protected] if you don’t mind. Thanks!!

    5. This looks awesome! I love all of your choices. Could you please share where you purchased the rug? I have been searching for a rug and that one would be perfect for my space!

    6. Debbie- this is gorgeous! As a South Texan, we do not get basements down here, so it’s always fun to see beautiful basements such as yours. I think the pub set is absolutely perfect for your space. Beautiful work!

    7. What a lovely area for entertaining…did you include an ice maker along the wall of cabinets used as the server/buffet? This is something I have been considering in my home as well…Where did you find the rug under your cafe’ table?

      • Thanks so much Kelly! Yes we added the ice machine and we are loving it! The rug is from an outlet store in Atlanta. It was a great find – cheap ๐Ÿ˜‰
