Dollar Tree Fall Decor Haul and Thrift Store Finds

Live Videos · Home Interior · DIY

I found so many affordable pieces for fall, from a big thrifted wreath to pumpkins, florals, ribbon, and a wagon from Dollar Tree. My favorite discovery may be the simple rag rug trick I shared at the end because one inexpensive rug gives me a big pile of soft fabric strips for bows.

My Thrift Store Finds

I always look for pieces with good shape and plenty of possibilities, even when I don’t know exactly how I’ll use them yet. Baskets, wood surfaces, and wreaths usually come home with me because I can paint them, add a design, or decorate them for the season.

The first find was a large fall wreath for $5.99. It measured about 24 inches across and already had pretty fall color, wood details, and a hanger. A few areas looked a little sparse, but that gives me room to add more picks or ribbon and make it my own.

I also found a divided basket that would work in so many places around the house. I’m leaning toward giving it a whitewashed finish, and it would be pretty filled with rolled washcloths or used to organize smaller items.

Another colorful thrifted piece caught my eye because the fall shades were so pretty. I could paint it or add a design later, but it also gave me a good color combination to keep in mind for future projects.

My bargain of the day was a 12 inch wood round for 99 cents. Wood rounds make wonderful signs, and this one already gives me a sturdy surface for a Christmas design or another seasonal project.

Dollar Tree Fall Decor Finds

The Dollar Tree fall decor section had a mix of ready to use decorations and plain pieces that I can change. Prices ranged from $1.25 up to $7, depending on the item.

Pumpkins and napkins

I was glad to find the stacked pumpkins again. This set has three sizes and came in white, which makes it easy to use as it is or paint each pumpkin a different color. I had an orange set a few years ago and changed all three sections, so I already know this piece has plenty of potential.

I also picked up napkins with sunflowers and pumpkins. Pretty paper napkins can dress up a fall gathering, and the designs may inspire the colors and details for other projects.

Ribbon, foam, and florals

The fall and Halloween ribbons were too pretty to leave behind. I plan to share a separate project using them because they can add color and pattern to wreaths, signs, and bows without much work.

I grabbed a sectioned piece of floral foam too. It will hold picks in place inside containers, and the sections make it easy to cut off only what I need.

For florals, I chose soft fall colors rather than bright orange. Two picks have small pumpkins, while another has beige tones and a pine cone. I have more pine cones that I can mix in, so these will make a full arrangement when I combine everything.

A candle holder and fall wagon

I paired a battery operated candle with a black candle holder. The holder already looks good, so it only needs a bow and a few floral pieces near the bottom. I may also tuck foam inside to keep the arrangement secure.

The large orange wagon was another fun find. It measures at least 12 inches and cost $7. I plan to paint it vanilla, add a few rusty details, and decorate the side with a design. It could hold napkins or silverware for a fall get together, which makes it useful as well as cute. The wheels are fixed, but it will sit in place as a serving piece or centerpiece.

Small Pieces With Big Possibilities

I picked up farmhouse style beads that would look good draped across a tray, along with a second strand in softer fall colors. Beads are easy to move from one display to another, so I can use them throughout the season.

I also found clear pushpins. I sometimes use these behind lightweight wall decor because they blend in and hold small pieces without showing much.

The unfinished shapes are items I grab whenever I see them. This trip included an autumn vibes cup, Mason jar shapes, and pumpkins with different patterns. They already have fall colors, but I can paint them to fit any season or decorating style.

Clear Plates for DIY Snow Globes

Clear plastic plates are handy for making homemade snow globes, and I look for ones without a raised mark or bump in the center. A smooth plate sits better against the surface underneath it.

You can glue the plate over a round sign or another piece that fits, then add artificial snow and small decorative elements inside. I mentioned Aleene’s glue as an option for attaching the plate. I found two sizes, which gives me more choices when I’m matching the plate to a base.

Turning a Rag Rug Into Bow Fabric

The last find came from Dollar General. It was a rag rug filled with soft cream, beige, and yellow fabric strips, and the colors felt just right for fall while still working throughout the year.

To take it apart, I cut along the bound edge and then cut through the material holding the strips together. Once that edge was open, I could pull out the individual fabric pieces. Cutting the binding creates a little mess, so I keep the loose threads gathered as I work.

The strips vary in length, color, and fabric. Some feel like cotton, while others have a softer texture that reminds me of scarf material. That mix is what makes a rag bow look full and interesting.

I can stack several strips, tie them together in the center, and trim the ends to make a simple bow. One would look pretty on the thrifted wreath, the candle holder, a basket, or the painted wagon. Rag rugs come in many color combinations, so a red one could provide fabric for Christmas while blue strips could work for other seasons and celebrations.

There was still plenty of rug left after I pulled out several strips, which means one rug can supply fabric for quite a few bows and small decorating projects.
