Our Decor Enthusiast team challengeย this month is toย create something with oneย yard of fabric. I thought about recovering a foot stool, making a pillow and that’s about it. While shuffling through my fabric stash, it hit me. The minute I saw this ticking fabric: Farmhouse “Farm Fresh” Napkins.
Mattress ticking fabric just has a certain relaxed country look, it’s perfect for adding a little farmhouse flare to the table. This is a quick and easy project, no sewing required!
Super easy!
- 1 yard of Ticking Fabric
- T-Shirt transfer paper
- Pinking Shears
- ruler
- iron
- The napkins are 18″ x 18″. I used a ruler to mark the fabric and cut it with pinking shears, mainly because I didn’t want to sew them. After cutting each napkin to size, I washed and dried them. The pinking shears created the perfect frayed edge. After I took them out of the drier, I trimmed the loose strings.
- Print theย Farm Fresh printable (I have included it, just download it to your computer) print on inkjet transfer.
- Use the ruler to center your printable.
- Iron on printable according to the directions for the transfer paper.
The fabric washed and dried very well. It was a little wrinkled, I did iron it before adding the farm fresh printable. You can sew these if you’d like. I wanted a more casual look.

Now you must see how I created my >>Farmhouse Table<< – yes it’s a do it yourself project that you can do too!
Hi Deb, My oh my, how I adore your ticking farmhouse napkins!! They’re just perfect with the words, ticking, and rough fraying. I DO think you may have forgotten to put your free printable words in your list of materials, though. You may want to add it for dummies like me, who love to get it all straight in directions and materials!! Thanks!!

I love the simplicity of this project.
You were “spot” on with choosing that ticking fabric for napkins! The neutral color is perfect for any color setting and won’t hog the show. So simple, so practical and so pretty!
Thank you Kathy!
I love the look of these, but when I clicked on the link for the fabric I chose the tan color stripe from Magnolia Farms and further review states that this fabric is dry clean only. Please advise if the fabric YOU made yours from was also dry clean only? Perhaps I am way too practical, but taking napkins to the dry cleaner is not gonna happen here!
Joanne, my fabric was from my fabric stash. To be honest, I don’t know if it was dry clean only or not. I either bought it at Hobby Lobby or Walmart. Mine washed and dried like it was cotton fabric. I hope you have a HL or Walmart near so you can read the instructions ๐ Best wishes, Debbie
I just love how these turned out!! So simple and so beautiful !!

YOur so creative! Kathy
I’ve been looking for cloth napkins to add to my placemats for a while, but the colors or patterns for store-bought ones just aren’t right. Why hadn’t I thought of making some myself??? I guess you just needed to put it out there in front of me! Thanks Debbie!
I love the ticking napkins and can’t wait to try it
Thanks Janet!
