Polka dot heart DIY Decor - DIY Valentine's Day Decor with Chalk Couture

Chalk Couture is one of my favorite ways to personalize my home. Whether you’re decorating for each holiday or you’re looking to freshen things up, this easy DIY product is perfect. It can be used on so many surfaces, like this painted heart. Or you can change out the chalkboards in home as many times as you’d like, I find myself looking around my house thinking, I could chalk that! You can use it on just about any surface.

I used two different Chalk Couture transfers, the large polka dot ant the You’re Just My Type. I found the wood heart at Target in the Dollar Spot. It was actually marketed as a tray but I used the backside to create my DIY Valentine’s Day decor. Bonus points for already being this pretty shade of pink.

Instructions

  1. Apply a clear protective coat over the painted wood surface. Allow to dry completely.
  2. Add the polka dot transfer to the heart.
  3. Use the small squeegee to apply the white Chalkology over the silk screen area, make sure all the silk screened area is covered. Squeegee off the excess and put it back into the paste container to use later.
  4. Dry the polka dot area.
  5. Fuzz the You're Just My Type transfer and apply it to the selected area on the heart. Press down to seal the silk screen area.
  6. Apply the blue Chalkology paste with the squeegee, removing excess and put it back in the container.
  7. After all the layers have dried, apply a clear coat to seal the decor.

Notes

My heart was already painted with the pink base coat but you could use any surface with any color of craft paint. When using a wood painted surface, apply a clear wax or clear coat over it before using your Chalk Couture transfers. This keeps the wood from splintering and pulling up on to the back of the transfer when you remove them.

Watch this quick video to see how I applied the Chalkology Paste:

The transfers are reusable dozens of times so you will want to take care of them. Adding a clear coat over the painted surface protects your Chalk Couture transfer. The splinters of the wood pull over easily on to the adhesive back of the transfers.

After you have completed your project, clean your transfer with water. Do not let it soak, I usually just take mine to the sink and use my fingers and a sponge to clean. Lay them sticky side up and let them dry and after they have dried, place them back on to the white backer sheets (on the shiny side). If they start to lose their stickiness, wipe them with a disinfectant wipe. That will help revive the sticky area.
