This is our firstย basement, ever!
So when we bought this house last year we weren’t sure what we would do with an unfinished basement.
Finished Basement Part 1 -Decorating our New Space
As you can see by the photo, we had it finished. We hired a contractor and it was finished in a little over a month. We debated on doing the work ourselves and finally decided that we would just add a little personalityย in the details here and there when it was finished. (I did finish the stairs, I’ll share that later.)
Crazy as it sounds, Mr. Refresh let me pick out everything from paint color to flooring! I described my decor plansย and he agreed.ย I was super excited about my choicesย but while we were waiting for everything to be installed I starting getting a little nervous. What if he didn’t like the color of the flooring? I ran back to the dealer grabbed the flooring samples and brought them home. The floors are one of the biggies, are you sure you want to go with what I picked out?? He did.
We had this small oddly shaped area, this is where we decided to add the kitchen and serving area (the plumbing from upstairs was in this area, which made the process easier).
There’s no stove, but there is a microwave… my kind ofย kitchen.
They vacuumed up the last bit of drywall dust on Wednesday and we were entertaining on Friday!
While the basement was under construction, I was busy shopping online. I knew this Better Homes and Gardens pub set would be perfect here, check out the BHG selection atย Walmart.com, they offer so many options online!
I also shopped the house and pulled together all my summer serve ware.
The kitchen/serving area decor isย finished/almost finished! Is any space ever really finished?? ๐
My repurposed clay flower pots are perfect elevating theย galvanized drink dispenser.
I’ve used these before on J and J’s patio, see them here: How to Add Color on the Patio.
These are so versatile, you can use them for candles, floating flowers or succulents!
We’re ready football games, holidays and cookouts with ย family and friends
Let the games begin.

I love your basement remodel could you tell me paint color and countertop choice?
Thank you !
I just love your basement remodel could you tell me your wall color and the countertop choice. Beautiful
The kitchen and entertaining bar look fabulous! How fun (and maybe a tad stressful) to start from scratch and to be able to choose all new items. I just love how you pulled it all together.
Those glasses with flowers inside look very nice! Thanks for sharing that idea.
Thanks, yes that’s an easy way to decorate with less!
What a great way to “basement-warm” party! Love the pub set and I think it has the perfect size for many persons that have a small apartment and want to entertain as well. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, it is the perfect size! And the basement has been warmed ๐
I live in an apartment, and I wanted a washer/dryer (in one like they use in Europe) more than I wanted a stove. So I had management come get my stove. Instead, I use the Breville Smart oven. I can cook ANYTHING in that and doesn’t heat up the whole place. I LOVE what you’ve done here!
Brenda
Thanks Brenda, I will have to look in to the Breville – if I ever decide to cook ๐
I have a basement. It is a catchall!!!
Believe me Donna – this was a catch-all too! Now the bulk of stuff is in 3 different storage areas down there!
Love, love what you have done. It’s beautiful! I notice you have one of the compact dishwashers. We are considering one for our lake home. Do you like yours? Would you recommend one? Please email me at [email protected] if you don’t mind. Thanks!!
Sorry, I see now where this is an ice machine. ๐
This looks awesome! I love all of your choices. Could you please share where you purchased the rug? I have been searching for a rug and that one would be perfect for my space!
Hey Jane, the rug is from Ballard Designs outlet in Atlanta. Thanks so much!
Debbie- this is gorgeous! As a South Texan, we do not get basements down here, so it’s always fun to see beautiful basements such as yours. I think the pub set is absolutely perfect for your space. Beautiful work!
Debbie, this looks so great! Congrats on getting it done – such a big undertaking. We are hoping to finish ours in about the next year.
Thanks Chris! It seemed like it took forever, but it didn’t! And so worth it!
Your basement looks amazing! You and your family are really going to enjoy using this area.
Thanks Paula, we had a bunch of family over the 4th and the space worked out great!
What an incredible space!! I love it! That pub set couldn’t have been more perfect!
Thanks Amy, the table is perfect!
Wow, Debbie that looks super!
Thank you Kim!
What a lovely area for entertaining…did you include an ice maker along the wall of cabinets used as the server/buffet? This is something I have been considering in my home as well…Where did you find the rug under your cafe’ table?
Thanks so much Kelly! Yes we added the ice machine and we are loving it! The rug is from an outlet store in Atlanta. It was a great find – cheap ๐
my oh my! Debbie! That space is gorgeous! I’m loving it all!
I really love those bar stools.
gail
Thanks so much Gail! I’m glad it done!
It looks AMAZING! You did a great job! Can’t wait for my invitation! ๐
Thank you Karen! Come anytime! You have an open invitation!
Oh Debbie! It’s looks so, so good!! I love all the fun touches for entertaining and the pub table is perfect in that spot!!
Who needs an oven? As Carrie would say, it’s for storing sweaters. lol
Thank you! Yes, ovens are totally overrated!
