It’s the most wonderful day of the month, Thrift Store Decor day! I am tickled pink with my thrift store basket refresh!
This cute basket was only $1.91! I don’t know about you but it’s hard for me to walk on by when I spot a good looking basket. Thrift store baskets are perfect for repurposing, most just need a good scrub down and little paint. They’re great for storage around the house, depending on the size, you can use them to hold anything from toys to blankets. I’m sure you can come up a with lots of cool storage ideas for baskets.
SUPPLIES NEEDED TO REFRESH A BASKET
- basket
- spray paint ( I used Rust-Oleum Heirloom White and black)
- painters tape (1.88″ ScotchBlue tape)
Clean the basket by vacuuming, my first rule in buying baskets is only buy the clean looking ones. Spray paint the basket with any color of paint, I applied 2 coats. Be sure to follow instructions carefully when applying several coats.
- After the paint dries, use painters tape to tape off your basket for the stripes.
- Spray paint with any color of paint that matches your decor. Remove the tape before the paint dries, this will prevent your paint from pulling away.
After the paint on the basket dried completely, I lightly sanded it to distress it a little. This is optional.
I shopped Hobby Lobby for florals, of course they were on sale! I added a piece of foam to the bottom of the basket and placed my flowers and greenery in the basket, fluffing until I was happy with the way they looked. I created a simple bow to finish it off.
I placed it on my front door. I love how it coordinates with the rug. This is one of my favorite thrift store basket makeovers.
